Baptism
Baptism
At Proclaimers we believe that baptism is an important step of obedience for every Christian. When someone gets baptised in water this a great moment to celebrate all that God has done in their life.
The word baptise in the original Greek means ‘to plunge, dip or immerse’ and has been common practice in the church since the time of Jesus. In fact, Jesus himself was baptised which you can read about in Matthew 3.
Who is baptism for?
Baptism is for anyone who believes in Jesus and has connected with God.
"Those who believe and accepted His message were baptized..." Acts 2:41 (NIV)
"Simon himself believed and was baptized..." Acts 8:13 (NIV)
Why get baptised?
Water baptism is a key step of obedience for everyone who believes in Jesus as an outward declaration of the inward decision they have made. The Bible makes it really clear that we should believe and be baptised (Matthew 28, Acts 8:13). We don’t need to wait until we’re ‘perfect’ or we feel ‘good enough’. Baptism is something that should follow on straight after we’ve connected with God.
"Then Philip began with the scripture and told him the Good News about Jesus. As they traveled along the road, they came to some water, and the man said, ´Look, here is water! Why shouldn´t I be baptized right now?´ Philip said, ´If you believe with all your heart, you may.´ The man answered, ´I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.´ So they went down into the water and Philip baptized him." Acts 8:35-38
